HOW IT WORKS

How attendance percentage is calculated

Your attendance percentage is the share of held classes you were present for. It only needs two numbers: how many classes you attended, and how many your college held in total.

FORMULA

Attendance % = (Classes attended ÷ Total classes held) × 100

Example: 42 classes attended out of 50

  1. Divide the classes you attended by the classes held: 42 ÷ 50 = 0.84.
  2. Multiply by 100 to get a percentage: 0.84 × 100 = 84%.
  3. Compare it with your target: 84% is 9% above a 75% target.

What counts as a class held?

Every class your college recorded as held, including the ones you missed. Colleges differ on whether lectures, labs and tutorials are counted together or separately, so use the same numbers your college shows on its portal or attendance sheet.

Why is 75% the usual target?

Many Indian universities set 75% as the minimum attendance needed to sit end-semester exams. Some allow a small shortfall to be excused for medical or other approved reasons, and some set a different limit, so check your college's rules.

Overall vs subject-wise attendance

Some colleges check attendance for each subject, not just overall. You can be above 75% overall and still be short in one subject, so it's worth checking each subject on its own.
