Add each subject's credits and the grade you got to work out your semester grade point average on the 10-point scale.
Grades use the UGC 10-point scale. If your college uses other letters (like AA or S), pick the option with the same points.

HOW IT WORKS
SGPA (Semester Grade Point Average) is a credit-weighted average of the grade points you scored in one semester. Subjects with more credits count for more, so a 4-credit subject affects your SGPA more than a 2-credit lab.
FORMULA
SGPA = Σ (credits × grade points) ÷ Σ credits
Example: three subjects, 10 credits
Most Indian universities follow the UGC 10-point grading system below. If your college uses different letters, match them by grade points.
| Grade | Grade points | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| O | 10 | Outstanding |
| A+ | 9 | Excellent |
| A | 8 | Very good |
| B+ | 7 | Good |
| B | 6 | Above average |
| C | 5 | Average |
| P | 4 | Pass |
| F | 0 | Fail |
Credits are listed on your grade card or marksheet, and in your course's scheme of study or syllabus. Theory subjects usually carry 3 or 4 credits, while labs and practicals often carry 1 or 2.
FAQ
Multiply each subject's credits by the grade points you scored in it, add those up, then divide by the total credits. For example, 4 credits with an A (8), 3 credits with an O (10) and 3 credits with a B+ (7) give 32 + 30 + 21 = 83 credit points. 83 ÷ 10 credits is an SGPA of 8.3.
The UGC 10-point scale used by most Indian universities: O = 10, A+ = 9, A = 8, B+ = 7, B = 6, C = 5, P = 4 and F = 0. If your college uses different letters, such as AA, AB or S, pick the option with the same grade points.
SGPA covers one semester. CGPA covers every semester so far: add up the credit points from all your semesters and divide by the total credits across them. If every semester has the same credits, that works out the same as averaging your SGPAs.
It depends on your university. Many follow the AICTE formula, percentage = (CGPA − 0.75) × 10, while others multiply by 9.5. Check your university's rules or the back of your marksheet.
Usually, yes. An F carries 0 grade points but its credits still count, which pulls your SGPA down until you clear the subject. Some universities handle this differently, so check your university's rules.
