HOW IT WORKS

How the attendance prediction works

Classes you plan to attend are added to both your attended and total counts. Classes you plan to skip are added to the total only. The predictor then works out your new percentage from those totals.

FORMULA

New attendance % = (attended + classes you'll attend) ÷ (total held + classes you'll attend + classes you'll skip) × 100

Example: 42 of 50, then attend 8 and skip 2

  1. Attended goes up by 8: 42 + 8 = 50.
  2. Total goes up by all 10 classes: 50 + 8 + 2 = 60.
  3. New attendance: 50 ÷ 60 = 83.33%, still well above 75%.

Example: 42 of 50, then skip the next 10

  1. Attended stays at 42, total becomes 60.
  2. New attendance: 42 ÷ 60 = 70%, which is 5% below a 75% target.
  3. To recover, you'd need to attend the next 12 classes in a row: 54 ÷ 72 = 75%.

When the predictor is useful

Use it before a trip home, a college fest, exam preparation leave or a long weekend. Enter the classes you'll miss, plus any you'll attend before then, and see whether you'll still be above your target before you decide.

Predictor or bunk calculator?

The bunk calculator gives you the limit: the most classes you can skip. The predictor checks a specific plan, like attending 4 and skipping 2 next week, and tells you exactly where you'll land.

FAQ

Prediction questions, answered

How does the attendance predictor work?

Classes you plan to attend are added to both your attended and total counts. Classes you plan to skip are added to the total only. The predictor then works out your new percentage. For example, at 42 of 50 classes (84%), attending 8 and skipping 2 gives 50 of 60, which is 83.33%.

How is this different from the bunk calculator?

The bunk calculator tells you the most classes you can skip and still stay on target. The predictor answers a what-if: enter a plan, like skipping 3 classes next week, and see exactly where your attendance will land.

Does the order of attending and skipping matter?

Not for the final percentage. It only depends on how many classes you attend and skip in total. Order only matters if your college checks attendance on a set date partway through.

Is the prediction what my college will show?

Only if your numbers match your college's records. Your college's official attendance decides whether you can sit exams, and some colleges count labs, tutorials or each subject separately. Check your college's attendance policy to be sure.

Is my data saved when I use this predictor?

No. The calculation happens in your browser. The numbers you enter are not sent to Praksha or stored anywhere.
